Canon HV20 NYC Test Footage
Assorted test shots with the Canon HV-20.
This is raw 24P footage on auto settings with speed being the only thing manipulated in post. I have since learned the value of the manual controls which I now set a default to 24P 48 shutter -6 exposure so as to avoid the gain this camera loves to add. I would also suggest removing the pulldown if you're sensitive to the added frames as this is not really 24p until you do so, but overall I am VERY happy with this camera. The low light levels are also underrated I might add, otherwise you will be stuck with a nightvision alternative as in other models... (Sony) I used the Divx codec over H.264 codec because even though it may not look as good clarity wise, the color for some reason gets completely washed out. Due to constant changes, youtube doesn't always have clear specifications on their upload codecs, so WMV, MP4, or even MOV which isn't supposed to be converted, isn't always the best choice. Neither is 640x480 resolution despite their upgrade, 320x240 usually looks better but who knows really... Overall it is still great and a good entry level choice for HD.
